“Let the Bells of Dunder Mifflin Chime Out Your Love!”
My heart soars with the eagle’s nest! It’s finally new Office week!
“The Dinner Party” invites your favorite Scrantones back into your living room on Thursday night.
Here’s a taste of what’s on the menu:
If you need a little more preview excitement, check out the promo shots. But that’s all I’m giving ya. No spoilers. I don’t know about you, but on Thursday night, I don’t want to feel like I showed up at Chili’s only to find somebody had already eaten all the skillets of cheese.
But I will fill you in on what the cast has been doing all this time.
Just in case you forgot, you can read a play-by-play of the last episode, “The Deposition,” right here.

Better yet, Office Tally as the entire episode, courtesy of hulu, for you to enjoy. If you just don’t have the time, you can just close your eyes and picture Michael’s face as he tells the camera:
“You expect to get screwed by your company, but you never expect to get screwed by your girlfriend.”
Or at least that’s the money shot for me. When he tells David, “I think you’re a nice guy too,” is pretty good too, though.

I don’t know if I can take the wait.
Lord, beer me strength.
wh — Maybe you could get Lindsey to take you to Asian Hooters tonight. Be sure to take your marker.
Just looking at Steve Carrell makes me mad!
JSmo — I think Michael Scott would like to share this sentiment with you: “I hate so much about the things that you choose to be.”
That’s from the show. If you’d give over to the goodness, you’d know. Actually, I think you might feel for Michael in that episode. Maybe. It’s hard to tell, since you hate him so much.
Why does looking at Steve Carrell make JSmo mad?
Lex — All I know is that JSmo can’t even stand to look at Steve Carrell because Michael Scott is so “selfish” and “inappropriate.” She can’t watch The Office because he makes her so mad. (Apparently, Michael could really benefit from a few sessions with JSmo.) It’s worse with Dwight, because he’s “obnoxious” and the very way he looks gives her the creeps.
That said, I think JSmo should answer this question for herself and explain the other reasons why she’s anti-Office. I’d say, “Welcome to the lion’s den, JSmo,” but, really, you knew what you were getting yourself into with a comment like that!
I love it!
Michael just gets on my nerves. He is so arrogant and has no social boundaries. And Dwight…. Katy summed that up right; he is obnoxious and creepy. I suppose I am not entertained by watching personalities and issues that I might be working with on a professional level. It’s like the movie, “What About Bob?” People think that it’s so hilarious. I spend the entire movie feeling uncomfortable because of the blatant professional ethical violations and lack of personal boundaries and differentiation. We work so hard to uphold ethics in the profession and work with so many people to learn how to be appropriate in relationships. Or it’s like Law and Order SVU. I work with the families and children who that show is about to help them find healing after terrible experiences! Why would I want to watch their “stories” for entertainment?
I understand that the appeal of “The Office” is that so many people can relate to the characters because of their own bad work environments. I think that is very sad, not fun to watch. I will admit, however, that there have been times when Kev is watching it that I get drawn into the personal storylines of the other characters and find it somewhat entertaining. I just have to look away when Michael spends too much time on the screen or every time they show Dwight! I don’t have anything personal against Carrell himself. I thought “Evan Almighty” was cute, for the most part.
JSmo — I get what you’re saying and I can understand it, especially in regard to SVU. That makes sense. But I have a plan for the next time you “have to” (get to!) watch it: Maybe you could think about it in terms of examples you could show your interns, and then you’d enjoy it more, kinda like you sometimes think of the Gilmores as case studies, even though you really do love the Gilmores.
Michael’s certainly not a model for appropriate social behavior, but he does have some boundaries. There are certain things he won’t do in the bathroom at corporate office parties, for instance. That said, I hope you didn’t watch last week’s episode. It may have been the most awkward, lack of social boundaries one yet. But it was really funny.
For some reason, I thought Kev didn’t enjoy The Office that much either. (Here’s the point where you could deflect attention by pointing out his severe distaste for yours, mine, and Lex’s favorite doctor-lawyer TV couple and their family.)
And I’m sure Steve Carrell is glad to know that you’re not opposed to him in general. But I think Michael would like to offer this tid-bit in his defense:
“Guess what? I have flaws. What are they? Oh, I don’t know. I sing in the shower? Sometimes I spend too much time volunteering? Occasionally, I’ll hit somebody with my car. So sue me. No, don’t sue me. That is opposite the point I’m trying to make.”
I’ll have to consider watching for case examples. Case studies are an excellent way to promote learning. Kev has said that he doesn’t love the show, but sometimes he watches it. I must add that I had GG on last night while he was reading something on the computer. He said it didn’t matter because he was working and wouldn’t be watching. Everytime I looked at him, he was watching the TV. Oh, Yeah! He loves the Gilmore Girls too!
Since the lions have yet to pounce, I won’t mention his disdain for The Cosby Show.
JSmo — Ha! I bet when we’re out shopping Kev and Chris are really watching GG on “the big TV” when they claim they’re watching football. They probably even use a code, like, “they’re gonna run a hale mary” means “Lorelai’s gonna make an ultimatum,” just in case anyone calls while they’re watching.
Good call on keeping The Cosby Show ace up your sleeve. You never know when you might need it.
“Sometimes I spend too much time volunteering?”
How can anyone dislike this show?
