37 Years of Rude E. & The Duke

Okay, I know I promised to do some real blogging asap, but I just got Season 7 of Gilmore Girls back from my sister, and with the last leg of my marathon in sight . . . .

C’mon, like I even need to finish that thought. You know what I’ve been doing. But I will follow through on my promise eventually. Plus, by that time, I’ll have a few new GG thoughts for you. And! I’ll give you those anniversary pics RIGHT NOW! (Tell me that’s not a deal.)

Here they are . . . My Parents, Rude E. & The Duke, Grammi Roo & Graddaddy, Ge-Ge & Ga-Ge, still goin’ strong just three years shy of the ruby:

Ain’t They Sweet?

PDA Still Gives ‘Em the Nervous Giggles

Here’s to the Future

My dad has a history of posing in school pictures as though he’s “looking into the future.” We tried the same tactic in that last shot.

When asked why she wasn’t looking into the future too, Mom replied, “Your dad IS my future.

It probably goes without saying, and I don’t even think my parents know about my blog, but I’ll say it anyway: “Thanks for all your love and faithfulness through each and every year, Mom and Dad.”

Here’s to RudeE and the Duke! I think for their Ruby we should work on their theme song…really give it some good lyrics. We already have the begining, “Tale as old as time,” and the title line, “RudeE and the Duke.” Now, we’ve just got to work on everything in between!

I really like your parents, Katy. But your dad intimidated me when I first met him. I imagine he has that effect on many folks. When Joy and JSmo were rooming I remember him looking at me as if to say, “You better not be spending too much time around here. Got it?”

Sorry for the delay in responding. We had an emergency right in the middle of my typing this comment! Thanks for your patience.

JSmo — We’ll have to get out the old boombox and cassette, so they can have it forever! If we do it at their house, I can play it on the piano. I have the sheet music, you know.

Steve — Ha! He does have a way of commanding respect just by being present. I think it’s the tall, quiet, Colonel combo. And, yes, he has that effect on many. My guy friends in HS were incredibly intimidated & argued over which one of them he liked best. One night C.C. dropped by & I wasn’t there. My mom invited him to stay for dinner anyway & C.C. got so nervous when my dad asked him questions (about his day, etc.) that his eyes welled right up! But that’s at least half due to the fact that C.C. is C.C.

He’s always been very gentle, but when I was a kid, all my dad would have to do was give me a look and I’d straighten up. When I was a teenager, he’d say, “We’re not arguing about this. I might be wrong, but with what I know, I believe I’m right. So that’s how it’s going to be. If I change my mind, we’ll talk about it then.” And that was that.

He’s really a softy, but you’re probably right on about that look he gave you. Actually, it was probably a mix of that and, “I’m counting on you to take care of any trouble these girls might have when I’m not around. Got it?” Dad’s serious about his girls.
