All the Work Is Never Over

Okay, okay. I get it. I’m supposed to blog at least every other day. Other people, they can take breaks. But not me. I’ve already shown what’s up my sleeve. You know I can do daily, if I want. I’ve no one to blame but myself. The Record fans have put in their calls, and I’m a woman of the people, for the people, so after a week’s hiatus, here I am.

That’s my big, dramatic way of saying: “This one’s for you, JSmo” . . .

. . . who asked this morning, “What’s up with the no blogging?” To which I responded, “What? I blogged on Thursday, right? I don’t normally do weekends.” And she, being the best sort of fan, quickly pointed out that it wasn’t Thursday at all, but Monday! Jeez. My calendar senses are seriously failing. Last week, I thought the 21st might have been the 3rd. I thought yesterday might have been May 2nd. And now this.

So what’s my excuse? I don’t have one. But if I had to come up with some:

On the Balcony Having Margaritas with Carl Weathers

That’s where I must’ve been.

Or maybe I missed the party because I couldn’t find my car in the parking garage at the mall and got caught peeing in the corner.

I mean, really, can you think of another reason I’d miss our anniversary?

I was just sitting here thinking about how it seems like I’ve been blogging now for a while. So I checked, and wouldn’t you know it, it’s been over a year already. I wrote that first post, Don’t Add Me to Your Blogroll Yet, way back on April 3, 2007.

I had to check the calendar to find out that I did indeed miss it; today is the 21st. But, hey, it’s still April. And c’mon. Like you really care about my blogging anniversary. (I’d call it my blog’s birthday, but I switched venues, in case you didn’t notice.) I’m not even sure why I’m posting about it.

Probably just because on your blogging anniversary you ought to get a free post in which you just get to say “Hey! It’s been a year!” and nothing else, and I missed it.

I guess that means I have to give you a little something more than “Hey! It’s been a year!” huh? Okay, how ’bout a brief compare and contrast? On April 3, 2007, I contended that some things in my life hadn’t changed since my first attempt at blogging. Let’s see if they still hold true:

Here’s to Cupcakes

Not long ago, Lex wrote a really good post about iCarly and productive selfishness. In it, he mentioned cupcakes and how infrequently we eat them as adults. From the comments, you can see that I agree.

Cupcakes should get more adult attention! They’re incredible. Really. I mean it. Sure, they can be done wrong with dry cake and too sugary, too dye-tasting frosting. But when done right, nothing beats ‘em. They’re the perfect little frosting fix. And, believe me, I love frosting. Plus, you don’t need a utensil to enjoy them. Heck, you don’t even have to dirty up a plate if you don’t want to. They’re cheaper than a cake and less fattening too. Plus, if you’re making them at home, they bake faster.

I wasn’t lying when I said I’d be thinking about cupcakes until I got one. I still haven’t and I’m still thinking about them.

I’ve also been thinking about what I should do for Caelyn’s second birthday (in June). I did a cake last year, but I’m thinking cupcakes this year — vanilla or yellow with buttercream frosting and, somehow, little Cs, covered with red sugar. (I’m not picking vanilla just because I like vanilla better than chocolate. Caelyn’s not 100% on chocolate yet.) As I thought about cupcakes in conjunction with table decor, I started wondering how much a cupcake stand costs. (A stand would look cool, plus I could do a cupcake with a red, sparkly 2 for the top and even work in ribbon or something, if I get crafty.)

But I couldn’t stop my cupcake research there, could I?

Where’s Emily Gilmore When You Need Her?

Lucius: “Here, please, for you.”

Me: “No thank you.”

Lucius: “No, please, take it.”

Me: “No, that’s alright. Thanks.”

Lucius: “Please, it’s a present. It’s free.”

Me: “Okay.”

Lucius: “Wait, it’s a little sticky, let me wrap it. Come, please.”

That’s the conversation I had with the nail product guy 3 quarters through the mall today. I’d already dodged the mineral makeup lady, the flat iron woman, and the cell phone man. I was on fire. Till Lucius, waving a little fuchsia stick in my direction, tricked me into thinking I could just take his sample and keep strolling.

Surf’s, er, Heads Up

The iMac is taking a vacation with the beach ball. Chris is checking him into his hotel as we speak. So unless something changes, I’m about to have to relinquish the PowerBook to the powers that make money. I’ll still have the iPhone to check on your blogs and such, but I wouldn’t count on much commenting/responding or posting.

I’m kind of too tired to write a good post anyway. We spent the weekend “Spring Cleaning.” I went through every single inch of space — closets, cabinets, laundry room, under the bed included — in this place. You wouldn’t believe the number of bags and boxes that made it to Good Will! We purged everywhere and reorganized the kitchen, the bathroom, our closet, and Caelyn’s closet. And then I cleaned — as in dusted, vacuumed, disinfected — yesterday, so feel free to come on over and snoop. Things are just as clean on the inside as they are on the outside. Plus, Chris put up these cool lights on the balcony, which makes it perfect for relaxing. There are things I don’t like about summer, namely heat and wasps, but there are at least two things I really love about it: sitting outside at night and flip flops.
